READING COMPREHENSION

Reading Comprehension (example - SQ3R)

This technique is intended to enhance learning through improved comprehension and retention. This strategy is meant to be used for studying over time, not cramming for one exam. SQ3R stands for:

Survey or Preview the information to be studied.

Question: Design questions that are related to the material

Read: read the material to locate the answers

Recite: the answers to your questions out loud and/or in writing

Review: your answers and questions multiple times

This technique for enhancing comprehension allows the learner to review the information, make connections within and among the information and rehearse the information in a meaningful and interesting way. Technology can easily be employed in many of these steps as well and this also enhances interest and motivation in the studying process.
