Note taking (example -Two Column Format
Knowing how to take notes is extremely important for students. Efficient note taking engages the student in the learning process. It is interactive and multisensory. With various note taking strategies notes can be written that focus on specific information, main points, subheadings etc. and these can be used quite effectively for review, rehearsal and studying. Note taking strategies also allows the student to begin synthesizing and launching learning of the information, developing ownership and committing the information to long term memory after rehearsal.
2 column notes are developed by folding the page into 1/3 and 2/3. Main points are noted on the left (1/3) side and expansion or associated information is listed on the right side (2/3). To revisit and rehearse while studying the page can be folded down the line. With the main points showing the student can expand on those points from memory. This can be done the opposite way as well. This is an excellent way to learn, rehearse, integrate and build on the student's knowledge base.
